Which laptops support USB-C charging and external monitors?
A USB-C connector can carry data without accepting laptop power or driving a screen. If you want one cable between a laptop and a desk monitor, all three functions matter. The monitor or dock must also provide the connections and charging power your setup needs.
This comparison starts with the reviewed configurations for which that distinction can change the purchase. It separates exact-model documentation from broader family information. A clear “unknown” is more useful than assuming every port has every feature.

The Dell example: a family name is not enough
The DC15250 owner's manual describes alternative USB-C capabilities. Dell's family configuration information distinguishes a data-only option on the plastic chassis from display output and Power Delivery on the aluminium chassis. A silver finish does not establish the chassis type.
If the reviewed unit has the data-only port, an ordinary USB-C monitor cable will not turn it into a charging and display connection. Dell also specifies a 1920 × 1080, 60 Hz maximum for HDMI output in the manual. Buyers with a higher-resolution monitor should settle the exact connection before buying the laptop.
“Supports charging” still leaves a power question
The Strix models illustrate the next check. Their USB-C ports list Power Delivery, but their main power adapters are rated at 280 W. That does not establish equivalent performance from a smaller USB-C charger or dock.
For a gaming laptop, verify the accepted USB-C power and any performance limitations in the exact model's manual. Keep the main adapter available for demanding use unless the manufacturer explicitly documents an alternative setup. A port's data speed does not tell you its charging limit.
How to check an offer before ordering
- Match the full laptop model or manufacturer product number, including the suffix.
- Look for explicit laptop charging support and DisplayPort, or documented Thunderbolt display support. A USB-C icon by itself is insufficient.
- Check the required monitor resolution and refresh rate, the dock's capabilities and the cable specification.
- If the exact configuration remains unclear, choose a documented alternative when that connection is essential.
